Oli Rubow (born 1972 in Waiblingen, Germany) is a forward-thinking drummer and percussionist who has built a vibrant career fusing jazz roots with electronic music culture. As soon as he "managed to clap his hands, he was into drumming". He played and toured extensively with artists such as Hellmut Hattler (since 2000), De-Phazz (since 2003), Die Fantastischen Vier, Cro and various prestigious DJ projects. Beyond performing, Oli is also an educator and author – he wrote the influential German book "e‑Beats am Drumset" (2007), runs the e‑beats.net blog and teaches at the Frankfurt Music University. In 2020, he was voted "E-Drummer of the Year" by readers of the Australian digitalDrummer magazine.
Apart from being an incredibly skilled jazz drummer, Oli has pioneered what he calls an "organic electronic live act" melding programmed electronic grooves with a minimalistic acoustic drum kit enhanced by electronics (loops, samplers and effects). He skillfully translates the precision, repetition, and tension-build of club music into warmly human, dynamic performances on the drums. His approach consistently bridges analog and digital worlds with rhythmic nuance and expressive depth.
