Nick Movshon

Nick Movshon, born March 17, 1982 in Manhattan, is a highly regarded American bassist, songwriter, producer and occasional drummer. As a teenager, he was part of a scene in New York that cared for 60s records and not what was popular at that time. In the mid‑2000s, he became a key figure in Brooklyn's funk and soul revival scene, performing with prominent groups like Sharon Jones & the Dap‑Kings, Menahan Street Band, El Michels Affair and Antibalas. He's also a founding member of The Arcs and has toured with The Black Keys. As a go‑to session musician, he has appeared on numerous legendary recordings, most notably with Amy Winehouse and Bruno Mars through collaborations with producers such as Mark Ronson and Thomas Brenneck.

Soul DNA

Nick's bass playing is a masterful blend of vintage soul and funk DNA with creative rhythmic depth and ghost notes. Influenced by legends like Bernard Edwards, he combines simplicity with boldness, anchoring grooves with precision and melody. He enjoys warm, rounded tones from vintage gear – such as a Gibson Ripper or a vintage Fender Precision. His feel is both reverent to classic records and adaptable to modern pop and R&B, making him one of today's most sought-after session groove architects.
