Brent Mason

Brent Mason, born 1959 in Van Wert, Ohio, came to Nashville in the summer of 1983 and played there in a club. Chet Atkins saw him, called the next day and invited him to play on his next album, which won a Grammy and got his career started. He went on to win a Grammy himself in 2008. His Dad was a finger-picking guitar player and Brent developed his unique style with a thumb pick early, which he doesn't just use for country music, but also playing rock, R'n'B and jazz. In the latter discipline he displays great harmonic knowledge and creative lines.

Country roots & jazz

Guitar World magazine listed Mason as one of the "Top Ten Session Guitarists of All Time" as he played on well over a thousand albums and continues to add to this extensive resume. Brent has been named "Guitarist of the Year" 14 times by the Academy of Country Music. Even when accompanying, he presents a soloist touch and great creativity. Though steeped in country, Mason's playing draws heavily from jazz greats like George Benson, lending surprising harmonic depth to his trademark hybrid picking. When one expects one thing, he surely will also offer something else.
